Service Description
DMQ Deer Management Course Deer management is changing. Across the UK, those responsible for deer are increasingly expected to demonstrate far more than the ability to identify, stalk and cull deer. Modern deer management requires an understanding of populations, habitats, environmental impacts, forestry and agriculture, legislation, welfare, data collection, planning and, critically, the ability to turn all of that information into effective management decisions. The Deer Management Qualifications (DMQ) Deer Management Course, delivered by Orion Wildlife Training, has been developed for those who want to understand deer management at this much deeper level. This is not simply a course about shooting deer. It is about understanding why deer need to be managed, how management objectives are established, how evidence is gathered, and how that evidence is converted into a practical and defensible Deer Management Plan. Deer management is an evolving profession. Changes in woodland policy, environmental objectives, agriculture, forestry, technology, public expectations and government deer strategies mean that training needs to reflect what is actually happening on the ground. The Orion Wildlife approach is therefore simple: Learn the principles. Understand the evidence. Apply them in the field. Make better management decisions. Learn From People Who Actually Manage Deer The quality of any professional training programme depends heavily upon the experience of the people delivering it. The Orion Wildlife DMQ Deer Management Course is delivered by: Nick Rout Dominic Griffith Glyn Ingram Between them, the instructional team brings over 120 years of combined practical deer management experience. Their experience encompasses the realities of managing deer across different landscapes and management objectives, including woodland, forestry, agriculture, conservation and wider land-management environments. More importantly, all three remain actively involved in deer management. The course therefore combines the academic and scientific principles required by the qualification with the practical realities of implementing deer management on the ground. Candidates are encouraged to question, discuss and challenge.
