The Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 (DSC1) is the UK’s recognised foundation qualification for anyone involved in deer stalking or deer management. Delivered by Orion Wildlife Training, this course provides the essential knowledge required to manage deer safely, legally, and responsibly. DSC1 covers the key principles of modern deer management, including UK deer legislation, firearms safety, species identification, deer welfare, shot placement, and basic deer diseases and food hygiene. Candidates will learn how to identify all six UK deer species, including Roe Deer, Red Deer, Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, Muntjac and Chinese Water Deer. The course is assessed through a series of written and visual examinations designed to confirm a candidate’s understanding of deer management principles and safety standards. DSC1 is widely regarded as the ONLY entry-level qualification for deer stalkers in the UK and is often required for firearm licensing applications & variations, stalking opportunities, and further qualifications.
